Town Meeting

What is Town Meeting?

Town Meeting is a form of town government practiced in Lexington and in much of New England since colonial times. Having evolved from the original Open Town Meeting, where any “free man” could vote, Lexington now uses a representative form of Town Meeting.

Certain town office-holders and 189 elected members representing nine precincts convene to vote on Lexington’s town and school budgets, town by-laws and other matters in annual and special town meeting sessions.
